Netflix viewers have been left utterly astounded by the jaw-dropping story of The Man With 1000 Kids, as the documentary made its debut on the streaming service today.

The gripping show delves into the harrowing ordeals faced by numerous families reportedly duped by Dutch man Jonathan Meijer, who allegedly consistently lied about the number of offspring he fathered. In an interview with the BBC, Jonathan has since claimed he did "absolutely nothing wrong" and has slammed claims he misled the women he donated to.

Spanning three episodes, the series chronicles Jonathan's global escapades, which appear to be driven by an ambition to father a staggering number of children through sperm banks. Audiences are taken on a rollercoaster of revelations as the full scale of the issue unfolds.

Helmed by director Josh Allott and producer Kathryn Taylor, the documentary zeroes in on the plight of various groups of distressed parents from across the globe. Moreover, it casts a spotlight on the murky underbelly of the fertility industry, exposing how certain clinics still permit anonymous contributions amidst a void in worldwide regulation.

Social media has been abuzz with initial reactions from viewers who were stunned by the narrative.

On X, the platform previously known as Twitter, one viewer posted: "I watched a new documentary its The man with 1000 kids. Its shocking to say the least and its incredibly f***ed up." (sic)

Echoing the sentiment, another added: "This man with 1000 kids documentary is wild!" (sic)

One viewer even expressed their disgust at those defending Jonathan's actions, tweeting: "Watched man with 1000 kids and the guy made a youtube video addressing it and the men in the comments are lauding him i wanna throw up." (sic)

Others voiced their concerns in the YouTube comments section of the show's trailer, highlighting the unsettling aspects of the story.

"This creates a huge risk of accidentally getting with your own family, especially in that area," one person pointed out.

Another commenter warned: "Reading the comments and I don't think most people realise just how serious the consequences of potential inbreeding can be." (sic)

"If the kids end up marrying not knowing they have the same dad, thats a HUGE risk of genetic diseases," another user wrote. (sic)

"People need to understand that this is really dangerous especially if you don't even know that your lover is your half sister or brother," another added. (sic)

"That's gross," a social media user commented. "It should be regulated to make sure who is donating and how much on at least a national level. You don't want your kids marrying each other." (sic)

A prospective viewer wrote: "That is nuts. One is too much for some. But 1000. How can you keep donating like that? That is a small town of kids. Will definitely be watching this." (sic)

The Man With 1000 Kids is available to stream now exclusively on Netflix.
