A Place in the Sun: Couple say they've 'seen enough'

A Place in the Sun house hunters Andrea and Gary were looking to find the perfect holiday home on the Caribbean Island of St Lucia. Channel 4 host Jean Johansson was on hand to help the couple out.

Their reason for such a big move was so that they could finally share life under the same roof, with Gary currently living in Grimsby, and Andrea in Northumberland. Armed with a maximum budget of £205,000, Jean showed them five jaw-dropping properties in the sun.

The married couple hoped for a two-bedroom detached property. A private garden overlooking greenery or the sea was also on their wishlist.

The search seemed to be going well until the fourth property, when TV host Jean was forced to "move on" quickly due to the buyers being extremely "disappointed". She had shown them a terraced house with two bedrooms and a communal pool in Gros Islet, on the market for £208,333.

The home didn't come with any private outside space, but did have access to a shared garden - which is not what the couple wanted. They also spotted another issue with the property as it reminded them too much of home.

When Andrea and Gary entered the property, they said the property made them feel as if they were back in the UK, as it was quite dull and lacking natural light shining through the windows.

After viewing just two rooms - the living room and kitchen - Gary said: "It’s dated." Andrea agreed as she added: "I’m just not feeling the love."

Gary made a final decision, as he said: "I think we’ve seen enough already". With that, the couple quickly exited the property and headed outside to meet back up with Jean.

Andrea explained: "It looked lovely on the outside but I felt disappointed when I got in. It felt closed off and just like being back at home, at a house in England."

Gary added: "It was very dark and needed opening up a little bit. We want to be outdoors, that was the whole thing for coming out here, and there was none of that there. So it just really wasn't for us."

Jean replied: "Well, you've been very straight with me so I think it's time to just move on."

A Place in the Sun airs weekdays at 3pm on Channel 4
