Tensions ran high on Good Morning Britain today as Prince Harry prepared to leave the UK and the conversation turned instead to the Eurovision Song Contest and the war in Gaza. Presenter Adil Ray made his appearance this morning, only to immediately pose a controversial question that put Labour's Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper on the spot regarding British support for Israel.

He quizzed: "Would the UK prevent the sales of any weaponry to Israel that could go on to kill women and children, under a Labour government?" Viewers took to Twitter to accuse him of political bias as he appeared to suggest a ban on arms being sent to the country.

"Adil can't hide his hatred. Presenters shouldn't show their bias," one wrote. Another argued, drawing a parallel with Hamas: "If a terror group killed thousands of UK citizens, executed, raped [and] kidnapped kids, babies, old women, and said they’d do it again and again until U.K. destroyed, and then someone told us to leave them alone and keep them in power? Ask yourself what UK public reaction would be."

A third echoed the support for Israel, quizzing: "Nobody protesting about those who were kidnapped, raped and tortured [in the October 7 attacks] and still missing. Why is this?" A fourth viewer chimed in: "Look how strong and disgusting Adil's face is with hate for Israel is telling (sic)."

One viewer swiped: "Adil Ray should not be on tv," as some viewers said the duo had brightened up their day.

"Kate and Adil are a great combination on #GMB this morning!" one exclaimed.

Another echoed: "Fine comedy duo. These two make a great double act so funny together."

Adil is known as the co-creator of the BBC comedy Citizen Khan, as well as playing the lead role, which regularly had viewers in stitches with its parody content.

He also had his own award-winning radio show on the BBC Asian Network and addressed the political correctness debate in the BBC Three show Is It Cos I Is Black?

Adil, who most recently starred in the Channel 5 drama series The Inheritance last year, has regularly appeared on GMB as a guest presenter.

He made waves this morning for his opinions, including when he described Jason Donovan as a "heartthrob" instead of an actor and singer, and when he claimed during a health discussion that "all babies cough and they all recover from it".

Meanwhile, another tense issue on the show has been Eurovision: British contestant Olly Alexander has been slammed for branding the Union Jack flag "divisive", while Israeli contestant Eden Golan reportedly received threats over the ongoing Gaza war, sparking fears for her safety.

As protestors descended on Malmo in Sweden to express fury about the Palestinian death toll in Gaza, including climate change activist Greta Thunberg, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested in a statement that Eden was "successfully competing against an ugly wave of antisemitism".

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
