Andrew Griffith says a vote for Reform will get Keir Starmer to number 10
Naga Munchetty has sparked backlash from BBC Breakfast viewers after they claimed she conducted a “feeble” live interview this morning. The presenter was discussing the recent local election results with Minister of State for Science, Andrew Griffith.
On Saturday (May 4), the politician appeared on BBC One to discuss how the Conservative Party have fared, as election results continue to roll in. During the chat, the 53-year-old took aim at Keir Starmer’s rival Labour Party and discussed plans for the Tories.
“If you vote for Reform UK, you’re going to get Keir Starmer in number 10 - the most left-wing government we’ve ever had as a country and an illegal immigrant amnesty,” he claimed. “That’s a choice, I can’t take that away from people it’s democracy.”
Following the Minister’s claims, Naga, 49, quipped: “You are at the end of a government term we’re not at the start of an incumbent Conservative Party, are we?” In response, the interviewee said: “That’s fair.”
However, viewers have come out in their droves to slam Naga, 49, for “not challenging” the MP when he discussed Labour’s policies regarding illegal immigrants. Many took to social media to have their say, with one writing: “#BBCBreakfast Naga Munchetty allows Tory Minister Andrew Griffith to lie about Labour policies and not challenge it.”
A second said: “@BBCBreakfast nice job reporting the elections and then letting a conservative mp turn an ‘explanation’ into a party political broadcast. Even allowed to say Kier Starmer’s gov was the most left wing the country has ever faced !!!Awful @TVNaga01 all left completely unchallenged."
Another typed: “That was a feeble and timid interview with Andrew Griffith by Naga Munchetty. He was allowed to waffle on. She’s normally pretty good at interrupting, bordering on rude at times, which is all the Tories deserve. Robbie Gibb must have had a word.”
However, many BBC viewers rushed to X, formerly known as Twitter, to defend Naga’s interview techniques.
One typed: “Loving watching Naga Munchetty on @BBCBreakfast "interrogating" Andrew Griffith about Tory mayors pretending not to be Tories. Brilliant stuff. She would be a great replacement for Laura Keunssberg and Fiona Bruce any day.” (sic)
Another said: “Nice one Naga- shutting that b*****d up when he started chuntering on about Tory ‘plans’ #bbcbreakfast.”

Earlier this month, Naga admitted that she was forced to ban some of her outfits after she’d received complaints from BBC Breakfast viewers.
Speaking to Paul Merton on BBC Radio 4’s Room 101, the news anchor revealed she faces a tumultuous wave of criticism when it comes to her TV attire.
"There's only one time I've taken it on board and never worn an outfit again,” she explained. “One and a half. The first time, I wore this dress on breakfast and it had a geometric print and two people said it was causing them migraines, so I said, 'absolutely fine, I won't wear that again.
“Then there was another one, I bought this brilliant dress, I still have it, this was about ten to twelve years ago and it was black and had all these eyes on it,” Naga continued.
“Two people emailed in saying it was scaring them and giving the nightmares. So that one I have worn since but I haven't worn it much.”
