The Chase contestant thinks Al Capone was a civil rights leader

As another episode of The Chase aired on Wednesday, ITV viewers were left up in arms after a contestant made a seriously awkward blunder after she got a question wrong.

It was Becky from Rossendale's turn to earn some money during her cash builder, but the player had a face palm moment after thinking American gangster Al Capone was a civil rights leader.

Host Bradley Walsh asked: "Which civil rights leader was imprisoned in Alabama in April 1963," to which Becky responded: "Al Capone." Bradley revealed the answer was in fact Martin Luther King as he ushered onto the next question.

Fans of the show couldn't believe the words had come out of her mouth as they flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their opinions.

One social media user expressed: "Crying at this girl thinking Al Capone was a civil rights leader #TheChase," alongside a crying with tears emoji.

Another confused viewer asked: "Al Capone? Civil rights leader? Why would you go there? #TheChase."

Somebody else sarcastically wrote: "Ah the famous civil rights leader, Chicago gangster Al Capone #thechase."

Yet another penned: "#thechase I was unaware Al Capone was a civil rights leader."

A fifth ITV viewer said: "And she teaches kids with special needs? Al Capone? #TheChase."

While a sixth added: "Al Capone is the best answer we'll hear today #TheChase."

Despite her blunder, Becky made it to the final along with fellow contestants Trisha and Dan and took on Darragh Ennis in the final round.

However, the trio lost out on £12,000 and left the show with nothing after being beaten by the chaser.

The Chase airs weekdays from 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
