This Morning interrupted by breaking news of Hainault knife attack

The ITV daytime show This Morning was interrupted by a breaking news announcement by anchor Nina Hossain on Tuesday. Prior to the show starting at 10am, viewers were surprised to see Nina deliver some news about a recent incident in east London.

The news presenter told viewers that several people, including two police officers, have been seriously injured following an incident in Hainault. She said that a 36-year old man is in custody and that police say the incident is not terrorism-related.

An alleged attacker in Hainault this morning was reported to have stabbed multiple people with a sword. The Metropolitan Police stated: "Police and other emergency services are in Hainault, east London, at a serious incident in which a man with a sword has been arrested.

"We were called shortly before 07:00 BST to reports of a vehicle being driven into a house in the Thurlow Gardens area. There were reports people have been stabbed.

"At this time we understand the suspect went on to attack other members of the public and two police officers. We are awaiting an update on the condition of those injured. A 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene and he is in custody."

In recent news, former ITV news correspondent Angus Walker has slammed the broadcaster after they failed to take Rageh Omaar off air after he became "unwell."

The news presenter appeared to struggle during Friday's News at Ten and stumbled over his words. It has since been reported that Rageh is "receiving medical care" and is "recovering at home with his family."

Former news presenter Angus has since criticised the programme's producers for not taking action earlier. Taking to X, formally known as Twitter, he commented that this scenario should have been covered by a different reporter.

He penned: "Wishing #RagehOmaar well. On a Fri eve the@itvnews newsroom is pretty empty even as News at Ten is on air but there is a duty Editor on call precisely to make any big calls. I’ve been asked to step in for a colleague who fell ill just before going live - can and has been done."

An ITV News spokesperson has since responded and told Express.co.uk in a statement: "We appreciate viewers of last night’s News at Ten were concerned about Rageh Omaar’s wellbeing. Following medical treatment at hospital, he is now recovering at home with his family. We are wishing Rageh a speedy recovery and look forward to him being back on screen when he feels ready."
