Beyond Paradise star drops hint on Ralf Little replacement in Death in Paradise

Peter Davison, star of Beyond Paradise and known for his stint on Death in Paradise believes Ralf Little will be replaced by "someone younger", although he hasn't ruled out taking on the role himself. It comes after the show was left with a void last month when Ralf bid goodbye to his role as DI Neville Parker.

Although the BBC remains tight-lipped concerning the identity of his successor, Peter disclosed to Express.co.uk and other press about whether he would step into the much-loved character's shoes. Fielding queries around whether he'd throw his hat in the ring, the actor responded: "Yes, I don't know. I remember talking to Ben Miller, who found the schedule in Death in Paradise a bit relentless.

"I'm always up for a challenge. So I would not rule it out but I think the chances are they may go to someone a bit younger." Meanwhile, fans and betting agencies have been concocting theories regarding Ralf's possible replacement, with names like David Tennant and Martin Clunes hotly discussed.

Ralf, however, remained non-committal in a recent Q&A session on Instagram. When asked about his possible successor, he confessed, "I have honestly no idea and they haven't told me, maybe they had no idea yet."

He then teased everyone by saying: "Like the rest of you, I'll also be eagerly waiting to find out who's next. No idea. But we'll see what happens.

Peter's latest stint was in the much-talked-about Death in Paradise spin-off, Beyond Paradise, where he found himself acting alongside Kris Marshall and Barbara Flynn once more.

The star joined the show as a romantic interest for Barbara's character Anne, but his time on screen was cut short when Anne discovered he had a secret wife.

Discussing the potential return of his character, Peter revealed: "That is not sadly up to me but Barbara and I were about ways in which we can get me back into the series. I think that one of the last things he says to her is, 'Let me explain'."

He added with a hint of hope, "I said, 'Yeah give me a chance to explain, come on, have me back so I can explain what was going on'. So you know on the face of it, he's just taking advantage or rather I don't know how much he's taking advantage."

"He's selling them this story so that he can you know, have lovely dinners and have these dates with Barbara or maybe there are other women as well."

Delving deeper into his character's motives, Peter said: "What his intentions are beyond that, it's certainly not clear. There's no way in which he seems to be trying to get money out of them or anything like that. So I think maybe he deserves a chance to explain what he meant."

Beyond Paradise returns on Friday at 8pm on BBC One.
