Bargain Hunt: Both teams awarded Golden Gavels

Bargain Hunt fans were in awe after a 'rare' episode of the BBC show aired.

On Tuesday afternoon (April 23), presenter Caroline Hawley was joined by couple Mike and Nina on the red team and mother and son-in-law Valerie and Paulie on the blue team, as they all went hunting for a bargain.

Experts Tim Hall and Tim weeks were on hand to give each of the teams some valuable advice as they were given £300 and an hour to spend on antique goodies.

After skulking around the antiques fair, Nina and Mike had managed to get their hands on a white painted cast iron table for £55, a £75 pair of oak candle stands and a Tower of London metal sign, which they spent £19 on.

Auctioneer Hugo Lemon was on hand to sell the items, with the red team's table being sold for £70, the candles for £80 and the Tower of London sign for £35.

Meanwhile, the blues picked up a shabby chic vintage stepladder, which they paid £15 for and a £28 Japanese space gun. They also secured a 20th century pewter cocktail shaker and soda siphon for £75.

The stepladder fetched £25 at auction, while the gun sold for £30 and the cocktail shaker combo went for £80.

When the teams returned to Caroline, she had excellent news for them all. She said: "Everybody has made a profit on every single item. Do you know what that means?"

The red and blue players whooped and clapped as they replied: "Golden gavels!"

However, there could only be one winner, as Carolin announced Mike and Nina to be victorious with an overall profit of £78. But she commended the blues for their profit of £24 before presenting them all with a Golden Gavel, telling both teams they had played an "absolute blinder"

When being asked how they felt about winning, Nina replied: "On top of the world."

Fans on Twitter were just as shocked as the contestants and they posted about the rarity of the show's events. One user said: "That's rare #bargainhunt episode. Profits on every item."

Another added: "Six Golden Gavels hit me with a wet fish #bargainhunt." Meanwhile, a third said: "Golden Gavels all round!"
