Sally Nugent admitted she'd love to be seated next to George Clooney on the BBC Breakfast sofa as her presenting sidekick, as co-host Jon Kay looked on in astonishment. The pair had been chatting to BBC producer Russell T Davis about the upcoming series of Dr Who - and the conversation soon turned to "regenerating".

As the familiar sound of the Tardis blasted out in the background, Jon joked: "I'm about to regenerate again!" Sally initially advised him not to, but Jon exclaimed: "I think you'd quite like me to regenerate, who would you want me to be?"

"Hmm... George Clooney perhaps?" she teased. To show that she wasn't entirely serious, Sally then burst into peals of laughter over her playful snub.

Jon obligingly joined in with the joke, simulating the "regeneration" process by holding his nose and puffing out his cheeks. Meanwhile, the pair were enthused over the promise of Dr Who returning next month for a 14th series.

That might make up for the disappointment of ITV's cancellation of Vera, which will also screen its 14th series this year - the final one. Ncuti Gatwa will be the new doctor, while Ruby Sunday - originally played by Millie Gibson, will later be replaced by Varadu Seethu.

Dr Who fans will be delighted to know that the new series is expected to debut on May 11, shortly before the Eurovision Song Contest.

However, now - for the first time ever - fans will be able to download episodes one and two in advance via BBC iPlayer, from midnight on show day.

It seems as though there's plenty for TV fans to look forward to, with the lighthearted segment taking over after a period of heated political debate.

Earlier in the show, Sally Nugent divided opinion among viewers as some branded her "woke" and "out of her depth" in a debate on Rwanda.

During her debate with Richard Tice of the Reform Party, who blasted the Tories' Rwanda Bill for not going far enough to solve the migration problem, she challenged him.

Sally warned: "The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea creates an obligation to rescue anyone in danger at sea."

However, he declared the migrants should be sent back to France - "where they came from" - and that doing so would not interfere with any legal obligation to be rescued from danger.

Flights to Rwanda under new Tory plans are expected to begin leaving within 10-12 weeks, although some human rights groups have put up an opposition.
