Kate Garraway halts Good Morning Britain for 'breaking news' announcement

Kate Garraway paused Good Morning Britain on Friday to announce some "breaking news" to viewers. The ITV host, who sat alongside Adil Ray, explained there were reports that Israel had attacked a site in Iran. GMB correspondent Richard Gaisford was also reporting live from Jerusalem about the alleged attack.

Kate began: "Breaking news because in the last few hours, there have been reports that Israel has carried out an attack at a site in Iran. Blasts were heard in the city of Isfahan home to Iranian military manufacturing sites, an airplane site, and also in the area of some nuclear sites too."

She added: "So it is unclear what exact target was hit, or indeed any extent of the damage." Later on in the programme, Kate and Adil cut to Richard, who shared the latest update from Jerusalem. He said: "It's a very confusing and concerning situation at the moment.

"Let's talk about what we know. All of the information on this is coming from unnamed official American sources speaking to American television networks, and the Israelis have said absolutely nothing about this so no confirmation from them that they've been involved with a military operation.

"The Americans are saying that... they're saying that the White House was briefed and nuclear targets were not part of this and that the Israelis were not trying to target the nuclear production facilities of the Iranian military in any way."

Richard went on to tell Kate and Adil that the Iranians were "playing it down" but they confirmed there was an explosion.

He continued: "We certainly know that their air defences have been in operation overnight, and there have been pictures unverified put online of those air defences operating. So no confirmation as to what it was that's been shot down.

"The Iranians say that there has been no explosion on the ground, so very difficult to know what the impact of this attack would be if indeed it is an attack by the Israelis. It's a really difficult situation to know.

"Just before we had this breaking news overnight, we had the Iranian foreign minister talking to CNN and he said that if there were to be an attack by Israel, the response would be immediate and at a maximum level."

The presenter added: "Well, almost immediately, we had sirens sounding in the north of Israel, there were concerns of a Hezbollah attack but turned out that was a false alarm.

"Certainly, there had been misinformation in the run-up to this. All day yesterday, sources had been briefing that there wouldn't be an attack until after the Passover holiday next week.

"But again, still waiting for confirmation as to what the Israeli involvement in this has been and how they managed to get either drones or aircraft into Iranian airspace."
