Unlocked: A Jail Experiment continues to attract viewers, despite not everyone agreeing with the concept, but what did prisoner Raymond “AJ” Lovett do?
Even though the reality show has only been out a number of days, Unlocked has already shot to the second most-watched spot in the UK on Netflix.
Set at Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility in Little Rock, Arkansas, the eight-part series follows what happens when a group of inmates are given autonomy by having their cells unlocked.
One of the prisoners was Raymond “AJ” Lovett, 24, who had been transferred back to H Unit after being on suicide watch, having felt very low during lockdown.
As a result, he was moved into solitary confinement for the second time before going back to H Unit which he described as “Heaven” in comparison.

What did Unlocked: A Jail Experiment’s Raymond “AJ” Lovett do?
Raymond “AJ” Lovett was arrested for capital murder and aggravated assault in 2022, before being sentenced in December to life without parole plus 15 years for “firearm enhancement”.
Two years ago, AJ was at an Arkansas hospital visiting his friend Jade Pye, suspecting that her fiance Leighton Delane Whitfield, 21, was mistreating her.
Tensions reportedly began to escalate when Leighton asked Lovett to plug in his charger near the socket adjacent to where the latter was sitting.
Lovett ignored this request before excusing himself to go to the bathroom, going on to text his step-mother how he was feeling.

According to Meaww, his text read: “I should kill this boy. I’m standing 2ft away from him.
“I’ve never shown this much restraint in my life.”
When Lovett returned to the room, he showed up with a gun in his hand and fired three shots into Leighton’s chest and then six shots in the back.
Following his time at the Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility, Lovett was transferred to the Varner Unit in Lincoln County, Arkansas where it is believed he remains.
Following their time on the Netflix show, County Sheriff Eric Higgins gave his perspective on how the experiment went.
He told the streamer: “They each have their own issues, whether it’s court, their charges, their contact or lack of contact with family members, their lack of support… all of those things are coming into play.
“They stepped up. They recognized that they can improve their environment.
“And the majority of the people in the unit did the right thing from day one.”
