Fans of Coronation Street speculate that Roy Cropper's future might still be secure as they detect crucial evidence in the DNA sample.

The veteran character, popularly known for his soft-spoken demeanour and kindness, is bracing himself for a harsh jolt coming his way. He's accused of the murder of the mysteriously missing teenager Lauren Bolton.

It may be recalled that Lauren disappeared without notice from the street earlier this year. The only hint was her abandoned flat with unlocked doors, a sight that troubled her love interest.

No one witnessed Laurens's departure, and she seemingly didn't inform anyone about her plans to vanish from Weatherfield - except possibly Roy, who was instantly under suspicion after her sudden disappearance.

When Bobby reported Lauren missing, Roy got caught in the crossfire due to his good nature notably when he was found cleaning Lauren's apartment in an innocent gesture that some thought concealed culpable intentions. With a previous false arrest over another murder just recently, the kindly Roy is back in hot water.

The stern DS Swain now sees him as the prime suspect. Anticipating harrowing scenes ahead, viewers will find the bewildered and frightened Roy sitting alone in his police cell, dreading the forthcoming court hearing.

Soap opera enthusiasts have been busy on social media theorising about the development of this storyline. Some fans tossed out a theory suggesting that Lauren's unexpected return would be the ultimate revelation, thereby securing Roy's freedom.

One commentator suggested: "Could Lauren make a shock appearance at the trial? #Corrie". Another fan stated: "I feel this will end when Lauren turns at the trial as an unannounced witness!"

A third observer proposed: "Get Lauren to turn up in Court!"

Meanwhile, a soap fan speculated: "Anyone else think DS Swain is Lauren's mum, and she's keeping her hidden somewhere? #CoronationStreet #Corrie".

This comes as actress Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain, hinted at the introduction of her character's daughter.

Recently, DS Swain returned to the cobbles and has become a regular in Weatherfield as she investigates the disappearance of teenager Lauren.

As DS Swain becomes more prominent on the soap, viewers will get a glimpse into Lisa's life outside of her police work, potentially introducing new characters.

In an interview with TV Times, Vicky Myers gave some insight into her character: "[Swain is] a single mum and a lot of people can relate to that.

"We're in the process of casting her 16-year-old daughter, and I think it's fair to say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree she's feisty, opinionated and educated. It's going to be interesting watching Swain juggling her professional and personal lives. Also, we know she's gay, so is there another mother and, if so, is she involved?"

Coronation Street is broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
