Alison and Dermot speak with couple in a throuple with a ghost

Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary were bemused as they discovered that two women from North Carolina had opted to add a third party to their relationship - an invisible male. One member of the "throuple", featured on This Morning, revealed that the mystery man - Rupert from Wales - was "blonde, blue-eyed and lean-built".

They insisted that his involvement in their love life was no different from feeling the presence of a deceased loved one. The ITV host described their ghost encounter as "lovely", while Dermot stated he'd love to have Rupert as a guest in the studio.

However, he was knocked back by the couple - who'd set out a third chair for their invisible partner - as they stated that he'd need to have a psychic connection to Rupert himself to be able to "manifest" him. Alison claimed to be "open-minded" as she asked whether the ghost was at home with them on the other side of the video link.

"He is here in spirit," one member of the throuple confidently announced, adding that they'd even made an AI visual of what they believe he looks like. It turns out there's quite a height difference however: one of the women is just 5ft tall, while Rupert is 6ft 6in.

Viewers who took to Twitter to discuss it were as bemused as Dermot seemed to be, with one exclaiming: "#thismorning has out done itself today. The couple in a throuple with a ghost interview. Literally WHAT!!!" (sic) Another chimed in: "I’m just not having it that any 18th century Welsh man was called Rupert."

Some viewers took a more aggressive tone as they branded the pair "fruit loops" who needed "serious help".

"Each to their own but that was the weirdest interview I think I’ve seen for a long time," exclaimed one.

Another wasn't mincing their words as they declared: "Stop pandering to these delusional, attention seeking, nut jobs, you just encourage them, do better!"

"Rupert ain't there and everyone knows except those two weirdos," agreed someone else.

Another questioned the accuracy of the profile of the man the two women had magicked up, quizzing: "Are there many 6'6" blond Welsh men?"

However, one open-minded viewer claimed that the pair "had a point".

"If this was a widow who lost her husband of 60 years, but feels like he's with her still everyday, and maybe senses his aftershave when she enters a room, would we be questioning? I'm open to all possibilities," the Twitter user insisted.

Meanwhile, Alison herself has spoken about ghost encounters in the past.

On one occasion, the terrified star "almost walked away" from a "haunted hotel" she was visiting on-screen - despite actually being pranked - while she has also confessed to having conversations with her late mum.
