Tearful fans took to Twitter in their droves this evening as the final episode of Hairy Bikers Go West aired on BBC Two, lamenting that they'd never see the late Dave Myers extolling the virtues of a new recipe ever again. "Think someone is chopping onions near me #HairyBikersGoWest #HairyBikers #BBC," one viewer lamented.

Another fan's response was more unrestrained, as they declared: "I’m a blubbering mess and I don’t care. Dave deserves our tears." "So sad about Dave Myers’ death; I just love the @HairyBikers, glad to see the Dorset & Devon episode tonight," a third chimed in.

"They’ve done so much, unpretentiously, for appreciation of good food." Another added: "Got a huge lump in my throat. Bless them both."

"I can't help but wipe away tears watching the last outing for Dave and Si. Lovely lads who had a wonderful friendship. It's been a privilege to watch them together for so long," a fifth wrote. Others spoke of aching lumps in their throats - however, viewers weren't the only ones crying.

Tonight's emotional episode saw Si King fight back tears too as his friend and co-star shared how he'd been through gruelling chemotherapy sessions, and lamented: "Who knows what the future will bring?" "God this is sad, because we all know how it ends. It’s breaking my heart," one viewer tweeted.

"I've had chemotherapy all the time we've been filming - it hasn't been easy," the overwhelmed and slightly frustrated-sounding star told Si.

"However] we got there - it's a wonderful feeling!" he continued, telling his co-star that he'd "longed" for the moment they had just shared - being on the road, together again.

Si was equally emotional, admitting to the camera: "I love him like a family and a brother - I'm just lost for words!"

He briefly closed his eyes in astonishment, as he marvelled over his courageous pal having had more than 30 sessions of chemo, and murmured: "It's quite remarkable what he's done."

As they raved over food and shared experiences, Dave looked at his friend emotionally as he declared the moment "Biblical".

"[This is] a dream come true, Kingy!" he added, using his affectionate nickname for him.

"Who knows what the future will bring, but for the moment I'm living in the present and it's pretty fine, I tell ya!"

Heartbroken fans mused that they think Si and Dave "knew" it was their last TV outing, but one insisted: "So glad they got one last adventure together!"
