Kate Garraway issues apology after getting 'horrifying' question wrong on The Wheel

Kate Garraway tasked with helping contestant on BBC's The Wheel

Kate Garraway was forced to apologise to a contestant during the latest episode of BBC One's The Wheel after she answered a question completely wrong. Michael McIntyre returned for another star-studded episode of his prime-time gameshow on Saturday evening (March 16).

The host was joined by Steve Pemberton, Phil Tufnell, Kate, Asim Chaudhry, Vanessa Feltz, Ainsley Harriott and Katherine Ryan. First up to take on the wheel was 70-year-old Bob who kicked things off with a wonderful burst of energy that left McIntyre impressed.

Speaking about how he came to be on the BBC gameshow, Bob, from the Wirral, explained how one of his daughters put his name forward for the show, unbeknownst to him.

He found out he was taking part in The Wheel while at the Bingo as he said: "Here I am now." The contestant then revealed what he would do with any cash prize and confirmed he would like to help his eldest daughter get married, which they had to put on hold due to "finances" as he added: "She really deserves a nice wedding."

However, when the game got started the wheel soon landed on Good Morning Britain presenter Kate who had to help Bob answer a parenting question.

Michael asked: "What age do the majority of children own a mobile phone", with the options being seven, nine, 11 and 13.

The question divided opinion amongst celebrities as Kate said: "It's a tricky one, isn't it... we held out until 13 but I bet they don't anymore."

She said the correct answer could be between nine or 11 as Bob agreed and he "locked in" on nine. But the answer was in fact seven, leaving the stars surprised.

Michael said: "Seven years old? Unbelievable", as Kate added: "I'm sorry Bob."

Viewers watching at home were also left as surprised as Kate, with one person writing X: "Really don’t get why seven-year-olds need mobile phones, to be honest. #TheWheel."

A second stated: "I’m sorry if you’re giving your SEVEN-YEAR-OLD CHILD a mobile phone what are you doing? What does a seven-year-old need with a phone? iPad, sure. but PHONE? Michael Mcintyre’s The Wheel genuinely has horrified me with that question." (sic)

After a while a third chimed in with: "#TheWheel I refuse to believe most 7-year-olds have a phone?"

"That's really sad that children as young as 7 have their own mobile phone. Surely they don't need one until they are in high school #TheWheel", added another.

The show saw Bob return and he won £82,000.

The Wheel currently airs every Saturday on BBC One.
