Susanna Reid and panel discuss Prince William not attending memorial

Good Morning Britain viewers have slammed the show's discussion about Prince William's absence from his Godfather's memorial service calling it "pathetic". The Prince of Wales was due to give a reading at the event for Prince Constantine of Greece but pulled out due to a "personal matter".

It was one of the main topics of discussion on Wednesday's (February 28) show as hosts Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley shared their thoughts and specultated about the reason for his absence. However viewers were not impressed by the coverage calling it pathetic.

Many took umbrage at Susanna Reid remarking that he had a right to privacy feeling that she was contradicting herself. "I can imagine people thinking as they're listening to you, to your discussion, 'What right do we have to know the question? The police say it is a private matter," she said.

"I have always said even though they are very public, and I say this about Harry and Meghan, as well, to a lot of backlash, just because they are very famous high profile figures who do a lot of public stuff doesn't mean they don't have a right to privacy.

"I do not agree with this thing that once you turn the publicity tab on, you don't get to turn it off. Because I think absolutely when it comes to any of us, we're on television - I don't want all my private stuff out there and...people say, 'Well, you're on television.'"

Viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to air their fury. @ALISONSTUART17 commented: "OMG this is pathetic @gmb If you STOP with the stupid words that the media, incl you are using then it would be a nothing-story!!!! Perhaps PW had an upset stomach, or a migraine or something else…….so what. I’m sure he spoke to the Greek Royal Family & explained."

@mr_matchmaker observed: "As much as @susannareid100 says they have a right to privacy here you talking about the most boring of subjects. Surely there must be something else more interesting to talk about." @ArchieStannumb1 simply said: "Hypocrite Susanna. Privacy a***!"

@KellyDe60668811 on X raged: "@GMB @susannareid100 @richardm56 @Kevin_Maguire @toryboypierce Richard Madeley has this hate towards Prince Harry. Read other day two Neo Nazi have been convicted for racially targeting Prince Harry 4 year son Archie. God forbid something happened to Harry and his family people would blame each other like they did with Diana. #GMB."

@King0243_PJC chimed in: "Susanna just lied. You've never treated Harry and Meghan kindly, always making snide remarks about them. Why are your tone about William more sympathetic ? We know why!!"

Meanwhile @BraidseaQuine said: "Oh,here we go again, more Harry and Meghan bashing. Congratulations to #PrinceHarry on your victory over @piersmorgan and the gutter press. #JailMorgan #PhoneHacker #GutterPress #ToxicMedia."

The thanksgiving service which William withdrew from took place at Windsor Castle yesterday, with Queen Camilla leading members of the Royal Family at the event as King Charles was unable to attend due to his ongoing cancer treatment.

Kensington Palace would not elaborate further on the reasons for his no show but said the Princess of Wales, who is recovering from abdominal surgery, continues to be doing well.

Prince William personally called the Greek royal family to let them know he was unable to attend.

Good Morning Britain is on ITV weekdays at 6am.
