Famed TV duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, best known as Ant and Dec, have unveiled exciting plans for a TV return after their stellar 20-year run on Saturday Night Takeaway.

The pair confirmed they are in discussions to revive the classic children's drama Byker Grove after nearly two decades.

The famous friends got their start on this show, with Ant playing PJ and Dec embodying Duncan, beginning their journey in 1989.

We last enjoyed the storylines of Byker Grove, which centred around the escapades of teens at a Newcastle youth club, back in 2006.

In a conversation with Alex Jones and Roman Kemp on The One Show just last week, Ant and Dec revealed they have begun work on an updated version of the series.

Dec shared: "We're still at the very beginning of producing it but we are developing it and it is very early days.

"We are looking at characters and storylines, we are looking at the world because it can be whatever we want it to be. There are a lot of possibilities."

Whether the dynamic duo will feature in the rebooted show remains under wraps. However, Ant hinted: "We haven't decided if we're going to be in it yet, I doubt it though maybe just a cameo."

Renowned production house Fulwell 73 has mentioned the project aiming for a "primetime audience" and hopes to "engage with a new generation of teenagers navigating the different challenges faced by young adults today." This thrilling endeavour follows closely on the heels of Ant and Dec's free initiative with the Prince's Trust that assists youngsters keen on breaking into television.

Byker, the new name for the show, will be produced by Ant and Dec's own Mitre Studios and Fulwell 73, a company co-founded by James Corden.

Ant and Dec first became pals when they were just 13 on the set of Byker Grove, and even landed a record deal after starring in the fifth series.

Their song Let's Get Ready To Rumble was a huge hit. They performed it on Saturday Night Takeaway, 19 years after its initial release, and it was a big hit with viewers.

After the 20th series of their show Saturday Night Takeaway, which returns to TV tonight (February 24), Ant and Dec are planning a short break. On The One Show, Dec explained that they "need a break" as they're "getting older."

He said: 'We're going to give the show a rest. We need a rest it's the 20th series and we need a break. It feels like it's time, we're getting older and it's a year-round show and we feel like we need a break." In a teaser clip of tonight's show, they can be seen pranking Simon Cowell, who is seen riding his bike through Malibu before being chased by a police officer.

Dec says: "We are ending the Undercovers where we started... with Simon Cowell! Our first ever Undercover was on Simon in LA when he was a judge on American Idol. So we've gone back and got Simon Cowell again. We went out to LA and gave him the day from hell whilst he was judging on America's Got Talent."

Ant mentioned that the second prank was sweeter than the first. He shared: "It was even sweeter getting him the second time round because we also got him during his downtime as he's riding his bike around Malibu - it's very, very funny."
