Two men have been given prison sentences after being found with ketamine-filled Kinder eggs in their bums at Creamfields 2024.
According to Manchester Evening News, Marshall Maddock and Harry Hewitson attempted to sneak the drugs into this year’s edition of the electronic dance festival which took place in Daresbury, Cheshire in late August.
Sniffer dogs alerted police as the pair were about the enter the event through the North gate. Both men were then taken to be searched by officers.
Maddock, 21, reportedly handed a “small quantity of drugs” over to police but refused to be searched further. As a result, an “intimate search” was carried out with officers discovering a Kinder egg capsule containing 10 bags of ketamine in his anus.
Hewitson, 22, also refused to be searched initially, but he too was found with a Kinder egg container filled with 10 bags of ketamine in his anus.
The two men were handed sentences totalling 36 months in prison during a hearing at Chester Crown Court last Friday (October 4).
Maddock was jailed for 18 months behind bars after he admitted possession of Class A drugs (cocaine) and possession of Class B drugs (ketamine) with intent to supply, per Cheshire Police. Hewitson was given an 18-month sentence after he pleaded guilty to possession of Class B drugs (ketamine) with intent to supply.
PC Lisa Green said: “Maddock and Hewitson were well aware of the law, and they have had multiple opportunities to re-think what they were doing. Amnesty bins were in place at entrance points of the site for prohibited items, but despite this, they continued in their efforts to smuggle in harmful and illegal drugs.”
Green continued: The festival is a huge operation and Cheshire Police work with event organisers and security staff in a bid to prevent illegal drugs getting into the site.
“Be under no illusion, while a large majority of Creamfields festivalgoers are respectful, those smuggling drugs into the event will be charged and dealt with by the courts. Do not make this mistake.”
A statement at the time read: “Just as in previous years, the event organisers will have a range of security measures in place such as searches before being granted entry and drug dogs in attendance.
“[…] Any form of criminality will not be tolerated and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the actions of a small minority do not impact those who are out having a good time.”
