Avril Lavigne has been appointed to the Order of Canada, a state order recognizing her contributions to music, ahead of her Glastonbury 2024 debut.

Last Friday (June 28), the appointment was made official via an announcement by Canadian Governor General Mary Simon, who shared that the order recognizes individuals who have made positive and lasting impacts on communities here in Canada or who have brought honour to our country abroad.

This includes Lavigne. On the ˜Sk8er Boi singer, Simon states on her official website: Avril Lavigne is one of the best-selling female artists of all time. With over 50 million albums sold worldwide, she paved the way for female-driven punk-rock music and continues to do so today.

She continues: Generous with her time, she supports individuals with serious illnesses, disabilities and Lyme disease through the Avril Lavigne Foundation. A global ambassador for Special Olympics, she promotes inclusion and helps end the stigma around intellectual disabilities.

This precedes Lavigne s highly-anticipated Glastonbury debut today (June 30), where she will perform at the Other Stage. After which, she will embark on a series of UK outdoor shows, including Cardiff Castle in Wales on July 2.

The singer s latest album, ˜Love Sux ˜, came out in February of 2022, described by NME in a three-star review as a modern update on early 00s pop-punk . It added: ˜Love Sux is a progressive pop-punk album that eschews the old rules “ but not at the expense of maximalist, joyful guitar anthems.

Lavigne is set to perform on Glastonbury 2024’s final day today, alongside SZA, Shania Twain, Janelle Monae, The National, Two Door Cinema Club, Justice, Nia Archives, James Blake, Alvvays, Romy and more.

Camila Cabello s chaotic set scored a three-star rating, while  Dua Lipa s Friday headlining performance and Coldplay’s supersonic Saturday set earned both of them four stars respectively.  IDLES  and  Fontaines D.C nabbed perfect five-star ratings  as did the festival s  first K-pop performers SEVENTEEN.
