The Call of Duty Season 5 update arrives to Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone today, and the latest patch notes detail all the big changes for this new season. The big update includes adjustments to perks and killstreaks for multiplayer, as well as an improvement to Warzone's gas mask equipment.

Season 5 includes new multiplayer maps, more game modes, events, and a major POI update for Warzone's Urzikstan map. More details on Season 5 content can be found here. You can also check out everything in the Season 5 battle pass.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is now available on Game Pass, and here is everything you need to know.



MW3 multiplayer map changes

The Season 5 patch notes address a few changes to multiplayer maps. The missing SUV on Invasion is now returned to its intended position near South Street, and a fix arrives for Terminal to correct an issue that previously caused some aerial killstreaks to become stuck near the lounge.

Several adjustments are made to Vista for the Control game mode, including the A capture zone being repositioned to the bridge within Jungle, and the B capture zone is now slightly repositioned in Marketplace. The spawns are also adjusted for Control. Defenders now spawn at Furnicular to begin the match, and the attacking team now spawns at Plaza.



Perk vest adjustments

Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer perks vests are getting an additional slot for either equipment or gear. The changes are as follows:

  • Engineer Vest - Added a Lethal Equipment slot
  • Gunner Vest - Added a Boots Perk slot
  • Demolition Vest - Added a second Gear Perk slot
  • CCT Comms Vest - Added a Tactical Equipment slot
  • Overkill Vest - Added a Field Upgrade slot
  • Ninja Vest - Added a Gloves Perk slot
  • Assassin Vest - Added a Field Upgrade slot
  • Gunslinger Vest - Added an extra Lethal Equipment to the equipped slot
  • Mission Control Vest - Added a Boots Perk slot
  • Modular Assault Rig Vest - Added a second Gear Perk slot
  • Compression Carrier Vest - Added a Tactical Equipment slot



Killstreak changes

Season 5 makes an adjustment to how killstreaks are earned. Any score earned from killstreaks will no longer contribute toward earning the next available killstreak. The developer says, "Although the Streaks Earn Streaks modifier is now disabled, the Looping Streaks modifier will remain active thanks to positive player feedback."

Season 4 added the DNA Bomb killstreak from Advanced Warfare, but this streak is no longer available to earn in Season 5. However, players can earn the classic MGB Tactical nuke for achieving a 30-killstreak without dying.



The Superi 46 is nerfed

Season 4's Superi 46 was the most popular submachine gun across multiplayer and Warzone, thanks to the weapon's fast mobility, but Season 5's patch notes detail major nerfs to the gun's movement speeds.

The Superi 46 now has a 2% decrease to movement speed, a 5% reduction to crouched movement speed, a 2% decrease to sprint speed, and a 6% reduction to ADS movement speed.

These changes were made across both multiplayer and Warzone. No adjustments were made to the weapon's damage profile, so this will likely still be a powerful gun across all modes, but players won't be able to skate around the map quite as fast as before.



More multiplayer weapon tuning

In addition to the Superi 46 changes, the BAL-27 assault rifle now has reduced recoil and adjustments to the recoil pattern to make the weapon easier to control at range.

The FJX Horus submachine gun is nerfed, with a decrease of 17% to both the maximum damage range, near-medium damage range, and far-medium damage range. There's also a 15% reduction to the medium damage range.

The XRK Stalker sniper rifle has an increase to upper leg, lower leg, and foot damage multipliers, and within its maximum damage range, this sniper is now capable of a one-shot kill regardless of hit location.



New Warzone rewards

Last season introduced new seasonal reward challenges for Warzone, and Season 5 brings rewards to earn, including camos, blueprints, and other cosmetics.

This season includes 16 new challenges divided in four categories:

  • Combat Expertise: Focused on getting weapons and eliminations
  • Cooperation: Communicate and help your squad
  • Mobility: Get into the heat
  • Redacted: Intentionally mysterious challenges

Completing all of the challenges earns the "Sports Icon" weapon blueprint.

Additionally, new rewards will also be included for this season of Warzone's Ranked Play.



Warzone weapon adjustments

In addition to the Superi 46 nerf mentioned above, the popular Holger 26 light machine gun has a reduction to the lower torso modifier from 1.1 down to 1x. The developer says this small change was made because the Holger 26 was a dominant long-range choice in Season 4, causing it to slightly overperform. This adjustment requires players to be a bit more accurate now to get the weapon's intended TTK.

Other weapons were buffed to be better long-range options. MW2's M4 assault rifle has a buff to increase the minimum damage, near-mid damage, and maximum damage range. The BAS-P battle rifle also gets an increase to the weapon's maximum damage range with a buff from 35.56 to 40.64 meters.



Gas mask improvement

Season 5 brings a quality-of-life update to Warzone's gas mask equipment. Previously, players were stowing their gas mask until they needed it to avoid the mask's tinted overlay, but the patch notes reveal that the dynamic overlay will now fade in and out depending on if the player is in the gas or not. This way, players can equip the gas mask at any time without having their vision impacted.



Other quality-of-life changes for battle royale

A reminder will now show on the HUD whenever a squadmate is eliminated and a player has a reinforcement flare available to bring them back.

A new setting is also added for the infil parachute. The setting is found in the console graphics menu, and it allows players to change between first- and third-person view while parachuting during the initial infil.

Changes to Control are in response to player feedback, intending to improve the competitive experience of the mode on Vista. Capture zone A is now in a position less favorable for defense while capture zone B is increasingly balanced, and initial spawn points are now aligned with Search and Destroy mode.

Using the Pump Action Fire Type, the Reclaimer 18 is now capable of killing enemies with one shot within its maximum damage range, and 2-shot kills are now more consistent.

COR-45 Trigger Action Attachments were previously more beneficial than intended. Due to negligible downsides, fire rate increases are generally kept below 50%. We'll continue to monitor player feedback for potential improvements to base Handguns.

  • Some visual effects, such as flash muzzles, have been reduced to improve player comfort.

Ranked Play competitors can also earn the Skill Division Operator Skin sets for use with both the CDL Male and Female Operators (for both factions) to represent your highest Skill Division obtained above Gold. These Skins are the same as the ones you can unlock in Modern Warfare III Multiplayer Ranked Play.

UI/UX

  • Dynamic Gas Mask Overlay Quality of Life
    • The gas mask overlay will now fade in and out depending if you’re in gas or not
    • This way, players can equip the gas mask at any time without having their vision impacted.
  • Reinforcement Flare Quality of Life
    • We added a reminder in the HUD whenever your squad mate is eliminated and you have a reinforcement flare available.
  • Infil Parachute
    • Added the “Parachute Camera Perspective” setting to the Console graphics menu.
    • The setting allows players to change between first and third person view while parachuting during the initial infil.
  • Plate Carriers
    • The “Stow” prompet now appears properly when looking at a Plate Carrier loot card.

BUG FIXES

  • Fixed an issue preventing the “Find a Party” feature from functioning properly.
  • Fixed several issues causing crashes and errors.
  • Fixed an issue causing vehicle icons to be larger than intended on the minimap and tac-map.
  • Fixed an issue in Plunder preventing the downed icon from appearing in the killfeed.
  • Fixed an issue causing the backup pistol to remain in the players hands while entering a boat.
  • Fixed an issue preventing the Specialist Perk pack from updating the “Currently Holding” section in the Buy Station.
  • Fixed an issue causing the player to get booted to the main menu while in the Gunsmith.
  • Fixed an issue causing a player to be kicked out of a Private Match lobby when looking at a player profile.
  • Fixed an issue causing text to overlap on a Redacted weapon’s loot card.
