Destiny 2's annual Solstice event will soon return to the game, bringing with it a new chance to earn some sought-after gear. For those Guardians chasing after armor with a desired roll on specific stats, this is the event to invest some time in as you can more easily pick up gear with high discipline, recovery, and resilience stats. Solstice is also just a fun power trip to tackle, and with The Final Shape introducing the new Prismatic subclass, it should be a ton of fun to let loose in the enemy-dense map of the European Aerial Zone.
Here's everything you need to know about Solstice 2024.
Solstice start date
Back in June, Bungie mentioned that Solstice will begin "on the week" of August 6. That date falls on a Tuesday, which is when Destiny 2 has its weekly reset. Solstice--and the other big quarterly Destiny 2 events--typically runs for three weeks, so you'll have a decent chunk of time in which to earn some new gear.
What is Solstice?
A celebration of the achievements of Guardians, Solstice has been held annually since 2018, marking the anniversary of the end of the Red War. Originally called Solstice of Heroes, this is one of the big four events held in Destiny 2. Solstice traditionally sees the Tower decked out in decorations while Guardians venture to the European Aerial Zone to engage in some combat with Cabal, Fallen, Taken, and Hive forces.
How to play Solstice in Destiny 2
While we have a full guide available for Bonfire Bash and how to get Silver Leaves, the gist of this event is that you'll want to race around the EAZ map, take down enemies, and gather the orbs they dropped by Ignition Carrier mini-bosses so that you can deposit them into the bonfire.
Stoking the bonfire allows for Silver Leaves to be converted into Silver Ash. The resources from this activity allow for the seasonal armor to be upgraded to give you a better roll than what you already had.
This makes Solstice one of the best times of the year to get armor with desirable stats, especially if you're looking to reach triple 100 stats for resilience, discipline, and recovery.
Solstice buffs
While it hasn't been confirmed yet, we're expecting the Solstice buffs to make a comeback this year. Last year introduced Firebound and Flare, powerful buffs that motivated Guardians to stick together and work as a team. Firebound gave Guardians increased recovery and Super regeneration when close to a fireteam member, and Flare allowed Guardians to unleash damaging waves of paracausal energy whenever they rapidly defeated enemies. Both of these abilities were initially only available in the Bonfire Bash, but Flare was later added to the Vanguard Ops playlist for the duration of Solstice.
Solstice rewards and armor sets
As for the gear, Solstice is offering armor sets with an old-timey feel to them this year. In a livestream, Bungie explained how it wants this year's gear to emphasize the feeling of exploration, which explains why everyone looks like they're cosplaying as a sci-fi version of Amelia Earhart. Even if you don't like the look of this gear, it's still worth grabbing for potentially powerful stats that can be earned from Bonfire Bash and you can always apply an armor ornament to make it more fashionable.
Beyond the armor, we haven't seen if there'll be any unique weapons handed during Solstice yet. Last year, players could grab Destiny 2's first Strand rocket launcher, Crowning Duologue.
