received an extra special birthday present from the pediatric hospital patients she visited.
“We can’t shake it off —the excitement, smiles and laughter that filled our halls yesterday as @taylorswift13 visited patients in Kansas City,” an X message from the hospital’s official account read on Friday, December 13. “Thank you and happy birthday from all your fans at Children’s Mercy!”
Swift turned 35 on Friday, one day after she made a surprise visit to the hospital. The pop star met several patients and their families, posing for selfies and giving out autographed Eras Tour merch.
In a video shared late on Friday, several of the patients recorded personalized messages for Swift thanking her for the goodies.
“Happy birthday, Taylor,” one patient said. “It was special for you to come and visit me because I’ve always been kind of, like, a normal, outcast kid. So, for you to come and visit me, makes me know that I’m not just a kid and I’m somebody special.”
Another fan, who was wearing a 1989 concert T-shirt, gushed that Swift’s visit “made [her] feel so special” as she made a hand heart.
Other patients and nursing staff shared their own well-wishes for Swift’s milestone birthday.
“On behalf of Children’s Mercy, happy birthday,” the hospital staff said in unison. “We love all the support that your Swifties are showing us and we know that’s because of you. Thank you, Taylor!”

During Swift’s impromptu visit, she took time to greet each fan and chat. Several of their parents praised the pop star’s down-to-earth demeanor in their own social media messages.
“This morning, day #6 of Baylee in the hospital we had the coolest, most unexpected surprise ever (with like 2 minutes warning),” one mom wrote via Facebook. “TAYLOR SWIFT came to visit inpatient children today and Baylee was chosen since she requests Taylor songs during her uncomfortable procedures!”
She added, “Y’all she is amazing! On top of her sheer beauty, she was just as kind and personable and down to earth. She gave Baylee a signed copy of her Eras Tour book and accepted a gift from Baylee (a diamond art picture) as well. We have fangirled all morning! I even cried because it’s wonderful to see my girl smile so much knowing the pain she’s been in.”
Another parent also thanked Swift for “bringing some joy” to her son, writing, “Great way to bring a smile and make a memory.”
