Rabanne Revealed the "Most Expensive Bag" in the World on Its SS25 Paris Runway Show

Rabanne hits the runway at Paris Fashion Week for the Spring/Summer 2025 season with a accessory that they call the "most expensive bag" in the world. The reveal comes after the brand had a major dressing moment that saw global sensation Chappell Roan wear the medieval-themed chainmail dress to the MTV VMA Awards just earlier this month. Paying homage to the "most expensive dress," the bag was crafted by fashion designer Paco Rabanne for French fashion icon Françoise Hardy in 1968.

Constructed out of 18-karat gold, the 1969 Nano is one-of-a-kind is a nod to the original "most expensive dress" constructed out of a mix of gold and diamonds. Following Paco Rabanne's 1966 debut collection titled "12 Unwearable Dresses in Contemporary Materials," the designer solidified his aesthetic in the industry by utilizing unconventional materials like metals, plastics, paper and gold to create wearable silhouettes. Now, current creative director Julien Dossena reaches back to the archives of the French fashion house, returning to the design roots of Rabanne.

When Françoise Hardy first wore the dress made of 1,000 gold tiles and 300 carats of diamonds she emulated a treasure, heavily guarded by security. The Handcrafted 1969 Golden Bag hit the runway earlier this week. The house together with French artisan jeweler Arthus Bertrand utilized 100 hours of work to create the bag that will be priced at €250,000 EUR. Two other memorable bags were debuted on the runway, inspired by Rabanne's heritage designs. The Handcrafted 1969 Glass Bag featured Murano glass pastilles by the Venini glassmaking house from Venice to give off a brushstroke marbling effect. The other piece was a Ceramic Bag completely constructed out of ceramic discs by Astier de Villatte.
