Urusai may be located in Ibiza but the buzzy new restaurant has looked to Japanese cuisine to inform its inventive menu. Opening this June, the tapas bar is based on the traditional izakaya-style tasting menu, where an assortment of dishes form a prix fixe menu.

The restaurant is housed within El Silencio, the Ibiza outpost of the iconic Parisian nightclub, and was built under the creative direction of Olivier Leone. While official photos of the space have yet to be revealed, the venue will feature architecture that draws from brutalism, Ibiza’s culture and Japanese kissaten, a type of coffee shop.

As for the actual menu, El Silencio tapped two chefs from Paris to merge their creative palettes: Yuji Mikuriya of Ojii, a fine dining spot, and Romain Littière of the izakaya Onii-San. The result is an Iberian-Japanese fusion menu that leads with seafood, fitting given the restaurant’s location next to the Cala Moli beach.

Among the dishes making up the sprawling menu is red shrimp carpaccio with shiso oil, sushi topped with caviar and a dish combining crispy rice, dashi and caramel bisque. Onii-San’s well-known sandos make an appearance, alongside soba with sea urchin and tempuras using local vegetables. Flavors include a wide variety of tastes and textures like miso, fermented honey, black garlic and wasabi.

Silencio founder Arnaud Frisch opened the original club in Paris 20 years ago in a partnership with David Lynch. He previously told Hypebeast that with all of his ventures, he seeks to “bring people who appreciate culture together” and recently opened a Silencio club in New York.
