In its own words, Pink Essay is “a creative studio & platform celebrating radical design subculture.” Founded by Matt Pecina and David Eardley in 2020, the outfit is known for its carefully curated Instagram account that champions unique design concepts and creations (mixed in with a healthy dose of fire memes), its work with Pantone Color, NYCxDesign and other outfits, and its playful in-house apparel. What sets Pink Essay aside from other design studios is the free-flowing spirit that flows through the veins of its products — after all, just because something is beautiful doesn’t mean it has to be sniffy.

Explain your brand to people who may not know you yet.

Pink Essay is a creative studio & platform celebrating radical design subculture. We create activations, experiences, objects, & archives that explore the transformational world of furniture and object design. Our digital archive and design community platform on Instagram has an audience of over 100,000 and growing, connecting our community of designheads all over the world. Our diverse range of work has been featured in Cult Classic, Office Magazine, Salone di Mobile Milano, I-D Magazine, Sight Unseen, Arch Digest, and NY Mag’s Curbed. Last spring, we launched Designheads, a new magazine dedicated to radical design subculture, hosted on Substack as well.

What about New York inspires you the most?

New Yorkers!

What have you got planned at Hypebeast Flea?

We’re excited to be bringing a selection of designs from our community, brand-new apparel, our first physical copy of the Designheads newspaper, and more.

What other vendors are you looking forward to checking out at Hypebeast Flea?

We’re excited for everyone, but we love seeing other NYC design heavy hitters like Head Hi and Lichen being featured, as well as one of our favorite retail spaces, Leisure Centre.
