Official Trailer of 'The Exorcism' Sees Russell Crowe Unravel in the Supernatural Horror Film

Oscar-winner Russell Crowe is set to star in the upcoming supernatural horror film, The Exorcism. The demon extraction-themed film is directed by Joshua John Miller and is expected to release in early June.

In a genre that has captured the attention of audiences since 1973's The Exorcist, Crowe returns to the big screens to play Anthony Miller. As per the logline, Crowe's character is a "troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a supernatural horror film." Ryan Simpkins plays his daughter in the film and begins suspecting her father's sinister troubles as opposed to a relapse into former addiction problems. Alongside Crowe and Simpkins in the cast are Sam Worthington, Chloe Bailey, Adamm Goldberg and David Hyde Pierce.

From the producers of Halloween and the creator of the Scream franchise, the idea of the film falls perfectly into the horror genre. In a statement, Miller explained how the idea of the film stemmed from his childhood spent watching his father play Father Karras from The Exorcist. He said, "If that wasn't haunting enough on its own, my dad never shied away from telling me stories of just how 'cursed' the movie was: the mysterious fires that plagued the production, the strange deaths, the lifelong injuries — the list went on and on. The lore of any 'cursed film' has captivated me ever since." He added, "With The Exorcism, we wanted to update the possession movie formula ('Heroic man resuces woman from forces she's too weak and simple to battle herself!') for a world where no one group owns goodness and decency over another. We were gifted with an extraordinary cast and creative team to tell a story about how we’re all vulnerable to darkness, to perpetuating it, if we fail to face our demons."

The Exorcism hits theaters on June 7.
