Despite losing its star athlete Tiger Woods at the beginning of the season, Nike along with its sub-label Jordan Brand are carrying on with their mission to make golf more appealing to the masses through limited edition footwear releases. The latest example of that is the Air Jordan 9 Golf "Orewood Brown," which arrives as a celebration of the upcoming major championship season.
The rustic feeling of the new "Orewood Brown" colorway is executed with a standout wood grain pattern that decorates the Air Jordan 9's signature full-length mudguard, wrapping around the heel until it meets the sockliner. Complementing this is a lighter brown suede that covers both the toe box and vamp sections, and the insoles finish off the organic theme with the appearance of natural wood and heat-applied Jumpman logos. One last flourish occurs on the tongues as silver metallic name plates read "Air Jordan."
Opinions are conflicting over whether this pair is meant to be Nike's thematic release for this year's Masters Tournament in mid-April or the PGA Championship which follows in May and is set to be played at Valhalla Golf Club. Either way, it's easy to connect the "Orewood Wood" to golf heritage given the number of grand old trees that can be found on many of the world's best courses. Look for this pair to arrive on April 12 with a retail price of $230 USD.
