BROCKHAMPTON's Matt Champion Makes His Solo Debut on 'Mika's Laundry'

Matt Champion is ready to reintroduce himself. After rolling out a diverse slate of singles that introduced us to the bounds of his solo capabilities, the BROCKHAMPTON member fully delves into the depths of his expansive artistry on his solo debut: Mika's Laundry.

Champion partnered with New York City-based director Anna Pollack to create an entire visual component to Mika's Laundry as well, building out an entire world for listeners to explore while listening to the album. "Equally important to the music is the world Matt crafted within which the album exists," a press release notes. "A remote, but technologically sound community of cement-walled facilities, open plains, and greenhouse-like domes, at the center of which lies the album’s namesake club, Mika’s Laundry."

"The whole process of this album was trying to find something without looking for it,” Champion shared in the release, explaining how the intentional introduction of an album came together: over three years of careful crafting and curation.

The atmospheric "Green" opens the 13-track offering, which Champion prefaced with singles "Aphid" alongside longtime friend and collaborator Dijon, "Slug" and "Slow Motion" with BLACKPINK's JENNIE. While the project's fourth cut "Gbiv" evokes nostalgic BROCKHAMPTON energy, the fifth brings listeners back to the dreamscape Champion established on "Green."

Existential and ethereal, Mika's Laundry reflects the many different sides of Champion, while also infusing the influences of the project's production collaborators – Dijon and Henry Kwapis.

Yesterday marked the release of Champion's latest visual as well. The "Dogfish" video continues to expand on the world Pollack has begun to flesh out in the videos for "Aphid" and "Slug." Check it out below.
