Luna Luna is looking back on its legacy for its latest capsule of merchandise to commemorate its Forgotten Fantasy exhibition. Entitled Neighborhood, the collection draws from Luna Luna's original 1987 merchandise to reimagine its signature moon graphics through a more modern lens.
For the collection, Luna Luna tapped three local artists to put their own spin on the apparel: Alfonso Gonzales Jr., Mario Ayala and Sonya Sombreuil. The trio drew design inspiration from the original Luna Luna artists from 1987 – including Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein and Jean-Michel Basquiat – who were each tasked to create their own iteration of the moon graphic.
This is the exact sentiment the Neighborhood collection mirrors, allowing local artists to infuse their individual ethos and aesthetics into Luna Luna Forgotten Fantasy. The three new graphics include a graffitied set of moons, a smirking, hyper-realistic red full moon, and a cartoonish crescent moon. Luna Luna's Neighborhood collection will drop later today, Thursday, February 28 during Frieze LA. Kicking off at 7 pm, Luna Luna will gather the three artists – with a lineup of food trucks and DJs – to commemorate the revived exhibition and properly release the merchandise. Prices on the drop range from $85 – $135 USD.
