Woman stops e-bike thieves by yanking one off moped as they tried to speed off

A woman thwarted two crooks who stole her electric bike by yanking one off a moped as they tried to speed off with it.

The woman was filmed grabbing her bike while pulling one of the helmet-wearing thieves off the scooter too.

Passersby and customers in a Starbucks watched on as the e-bike and one of the crooks ended up in the road as the other offender escaped on their moped.

One bystander in the coffee shop captured the woman’s heroics on their mobile phone.

It happened on Tuesday on Shenley Road, Borehamwood, Hertfordshire.

Local Steve Blackman said: ‘Fair play to the lady having a go back. But I can’t understand there’s nobody helping and of course caught on camera taking the documentary of it all instead of helping?

‘I know it’s a bit daunting to get involved with something like this,’ he added.

‘But that’s someone’s family member and trust me the little sod needs more than being dragged off that bike and I say that in a non-violent manner.’

Ben Hunt added: ‘Good for her, shame people not helping her out.’

One fumed: ‘Everyone just sitting back, sitting their overpriced coffee, doing f*ck all.’

Hertfordshire Police have been approached for comment.

London bike lanes are becoming busier as more people swap the Tube or a car for a bicycle.

Another worrying trend is the emergence of illegal e-bike which have been modified to reach dangerous, even lethal speeds.

Now new figures have revealed how many illegal e-bikes have been taken off the road this year alone – and the numbers have soared in 12 months.
