Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has issued a strong message to teenage sensation Kobbie Mainoo, with the 19-year-old midfielder in a contract stand-off as it's understood he wants a £200,000-a-week wage.

Despite Chelsea lurking in anticipation of a possible transfer, Amorim remains firm that Mainoo is not yet at his peak and must aim higher.

The talented Stockport-born player, who's vital for both club and country, currently earns £20,000 weekly, a sum not commensurate with his on-field worth.

However, United are reluctant to approve an astronomical raise with over two years left on his existing deal.

Amorim commented: "I think Kobbie Mainoo is improving a lot during the last matches."

He further emphasised: "But I think you guys feel like he is the finished product - and he is not. He has so much potential to grow up even more."

Additionally, Amorim observed: "He is really really good but he can be so much better. I think he is improving, all the players are improving, all the players are important for me, no matter whether they worked with me in the past."

With the Red Devils concerned about adhering to Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Regulations, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been aggressively cutting costs, leading to over 150 redundancies. The sales of home-grown star Mainoo and the sidelined Marcus Rashford could significantly enhance their financial compliance efforts.
