Outlander enthusiasts are up in arms as the much-anticipated season seven finale has been delayed by a week, causing an uproar among the fanbase.

The hit Starz historical fantasy series, which resumed its seventh season last November, has been consistently delighting fans with new episodes every Friday since its return.

Yet, the network's decision to introduce a one-week break before the final episode of the penultimate season, A Hundred Thousand Angels, has left viewers less than pleased.

In the most recent instalment, Written In My Heart's Own Blood, protagonists Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) brace themselves for the ongoing war and the looming threat that either could fall during a critical juncture in the American Revolution.

Amidst the chaos of battle where Jamie is deeply involved, it's Claire who has fans worried after her premonitions about the Battle Of Monmouth prove accurate, leaving her with a life-threatening bullet injury, reports the Daily Record.

Meanwhile, Brianna (Sophie Skelton) edges closer to a reunion with Roger (Richard Rankin), but the storyline takes an unexpected turn when their daughter Mandy (Rosa Morris) dashes through the stones, hinting at another MacKenzie possibly lost in time.

Frustrated fans have taken to social media to express their discontent, with one particularly vexed viewer on X exclaiming with a flurry of angry emojis: "Last Episode of Outlander E16 season 7 and you make us wait an extra week. Why????? Bring this forward."

Another disappointed fan tweeted: "@Outlander_STARZ #OutlanderFans I was actually looking forward to the season finale at 12 am and nothing. What am I missing.

"When is it supposed to air and why make us wait more."

Another viewer vented: "I'm getting so tired of #Outlander @Outlander_STARZ dragging out their seasons and their episodes- not having one this week, cuz why? Just to drag this season 7 out even longer. It's a wonderful show, but why can't they be normal?"

The backlash intensified as dedicated followers of the series accuse Starz of deliberately extending the season's timeline to lock viewers into ongoing subscriptions.

"And for us, they're dragging it one day past our Starz renewal date. Argh!" one viewer fumed in response to a fellow disgruntled comment.

The original poster then retorted, "They totally are trying to get people to renew one more week and then maybe not cancel and just keep it. So aggravating!"

One disappointed fan detailed their experience: "I was hyped ALL week, started refreshing at midnight and then came here when it didn't show."

A scathing critique followed, "Artificially extending the season so you get another billing cycle is predatory, scumbag behavior. F*** you, Starz. You won't see another cent from me."

Despite the turmoil brewing among its viewers, the avid fanbase of Outlander remains on edge, eager to find out what happens to Claire in the next instalment scheduled for the following Friday.

Outlander season seven part two concludes Friday, January 17 on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
