ITV The Chase's Bradley Walsh gobsmacked as he hits out at 'disastrous' players

The Chase: Bradley Walsh calls the episode a 'disaster'

The Chase host Bradley Walsh called out his team for their "disastrous" performance.

The presenter, 64, welcomed four new contestants who went up against Darragh Ennis in the hopes of winning some cash.

The first contestant to take on Darragh was Ian, an actor from London. The 65-year-old answered just two questions correctly in the cash builder, meaning he arrived at the table with £2,000.

The chaser tried to tempt Ian with a low offer of £200 and a high offer of £20,000, but he chose to stick with his original offer.

And this appeared to be the wrong decision as he was caught by Darragh before he could make it back to his team.

Up next was Dianne, who answered only one question correctly in the cash builder. Realising the £1,000 was the worst option of them all, the 32-year-old took a risk and played for the high offer of £25,000.

But the same pattern arose and the structural engineer was caught by Darragh.

Hoping to change things was Ruth, a 55-year-old cycling instructor. She earned the highest cash builder score of the day so far, answering three questions correctly.

Despite being advised by Jason to take the £1,000, Ruth decided to play for £3,000.

Moments before Ruth was caught by Darragh, Bradley recognised the severity of the situation as he said: "This is really disastrous for my team."

Fourth to step up to the spot was 29-year-old Jason. The doctor, who hails from Bristol, answered five questions correctly in the cash builder.

But he was unable to resist when Darragh offered him an eye-watering £100,000 to take a step closer to him. Unfortunately for Jason, Darragh showed no mercy and caught him before he could make it back.

As all the contestants were out, they were allowed to bring one person back for the final chase. The team chose Jason and he answered 12 questions correctly on his own.

But it was no match for The Menace, who caught him with 49 seconds remaining.

At the end of the show, Darragh touched upon the importance of considering the low offer, predicting that he could have been beaten had Jason's teammates made it through to the final chase.
