Jose Mourinho has already stated his intention to work again in England after suddenly becoming a contender to take over at Everton. The Merseyside club are looking for a new manager after sacking Sean Dyche just hours before tonight’s FA Cup tie with Peterborough.

‘The Special One’ has a fabled history with the Premier League, having won three titles during his two stints with Chelsea.

He’s also worked at Manchester United and Tottenham, and all three clubs provided soundbites that have since gone down in folklore.

The 61-year-old is currently out in Turkey, after taking charge of Fenerbahce in the summer. But the club are currently struggling to keep pace with Galatasaray in the Super Lig title race, lying second and eight points off their rivals.

His side are also competing in the Europa League, and Mourinho was sent to the stands during a feisty 1-1 draw with former club United in October. After that game the Portuguese boss had previously vowed that his next role would be back in England and wouldn’t involve European football.

"The best thing I have to do is when I leave Fener is that I go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition,” he said. “So a club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go.”

But he later clarified his comments, insisting he was joking and would never join a club that was battling against relegation. However, he did reiterate his desire to work a fifth stint in the UK, favouring a return to the capital city.

"I had three clubs in England, so four different periods I've coached in England, and I love it,” he told Sky Sports. “And by the social point of view, I've been lucky enough to live in so many cities, but my family lives in London. That is home, so one day I have to be back, unless no one wants me.”

However, he also revealed he intended to see out his contract in Turkey, which runs until the summer of 2026. “Don't get me wrong, and let's make it very very clear, for the next two years, this season and next, no one will take me from Fenerbahce,” he added.

But the situation at Goodison Park may now test that statement. Everton had been linked with a move for Graham Potter, but he was appointed as the new man at West Ham this morning, prior to Dyche being sacked.

The Toffees are currently perilously placed in the Premier League, 16th in the table and just one point clear of relegation. However, following the takeover from the The Friedkin Group, the club appear to finally heading for financial stability following their Financial Fair Play issues last year, and the project could well entice Mourinho back to England.
