GB News: Princess Kate's birthday discussed by Fitzwilliams

GB News' Stephen Dixon and Ellie Costello fronted the breakfast show and welcomed Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams to discuss Princess Kate's 43rd birthday.

Reflecting on the Royal's difficult year after battling cancer, the presenter shared his concern and questioned if Kate would change her approach to public duties.

Stephen asked: "I wonder if we will ever see public duties to the extent that we've seen before because one thing which is clear from this, in which i guess we all appreciate from her perspective is this idea that they both her and William want to have quality family time, which perhaps they weren't getting before."

Richard responded: "Well, William has of course all period of his marriage made absolutely certain that this was his priority, you're absolutely right.

"There is the difficulty of how you carve out massive numbers of Royal engagements and also have the quality time in any case, even if you were fit. The pressure are absolutely tremendous."

In the first few months of 2024, Princess Kate was diagnosed with cancer after tests following abdominal surgery in January which "found cancer had been present".

As a result, the future Queen was forced to put all royal duty on hold and thankfully after months of treatment the Princess of Wales completed chemotherapy at the end of the summer.

At the time, Kensington Palace released a three-minute video and Kate's voice could be heard describing the past nine months as "incredibly tough for us as a family", saying the experience gave her a "new perspective on everything".

She said: "The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything."

During the broadcast, Richard reflected: "This last year has been so deeply testing, if you consider her 42nd she went into hospital for a major abdominal surgery and was there a fortnight.

"William has described it as such a brutal year, the 'worst of his life,' with King Charles as well battling cancer."

He continued: "So today is very, very special and we hope the family get together and a chance to relax.

"Also hopefully in the next year what we will see is firstly more of her and secondly trips abroad and the like things will be taken, she has a long way to go, gradually and obviously on medical advice."
