Ed Balls accused of 'laughing' during tragic GMB segment as fans 'switch off'

GMB: Ed Balls asks Sam Neill about his chickens

Good Morning Britain presenter Ed Balls has been accused of “laughing” as a report took an extremely tragic turn on the ITV breakfast programme.

The programme was covering the wildfires currently raging across Los Angeles. Many have already lost their homes in the raging fires, while five people are confirmed to have died.

And despite branding the news “very upsetting”, Ed was accused of “smirking” during reports from furious viewers on social media.

In one segment, Ed’s expression could have been taken as a smile as he asked US correspondent Ross King: “How does it affect how you feel about your safety today?”

Ross said: “The pictures are difficult to watch when you’re right here in the middle of it. It’s the most destructive fire in LA history – at the moment there’s about 10 fires going on. The one that’s very close to me is the Runyon Canyon which is referred to as the sunset fire is just a couple of miles away.”

Turning out in force on X, viewers shared their ire with one writing: “Watching the devastation of the LA fires and Ed Balls is smirking whilst delivering this news on GMB. Very confused. Sending thoughts to everyone who has been affected by this tragedy.”

Someone else posted: “Why does Ed Balls look like he’s smirking and trying not to laugh when reading the news?”

“Why does Ed Balls always look like he is about to p*** himself laughing when discussing serious topics? Very unprofessional,” another viewer agreed.

A fourth social media user added: “Why is Ed Balls grinning and smirking whilst telling us many have lost their homes in the fires? Someone needs to give him lessons in public speaking.”

And a fifth wrote: “Why does Ed always look like he is smirking all the time?”
