Shane Lowry has shared his biggest fear ahead of the first day of TGL action in Florida on Wednesday.

TGL is a new venture backed by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, which aims to ‘reimagine golf for the 21st century’.

It pits teams of PGA Tour players against each other, but unlike their usual ventures out on the course, TGL is predominantly simulation-based.

TGL gets underway at a purpose-built arena in the Sunshine State tomorrow and features a supersized golf simulator screen, as well as a state-of-the-art morphing green.

The Open champion Lowry is among the cohort of players taking part in the big-money event, but the Irishman took to social media to share one major concern ahead of its launch.

Posting on X, Lowry told his 311,000 followers: “If hitting the first ever shot in @TGL history tomorrow night wasn’t nerve-racking enough, imagine if I miss the 60ft screen [monkey and laughing emoji].”

The tongue-in-cheek comment was accompanied by a photo of the SoFi Center.

Away from Lowry’s trepidations, anticipation is building ahead of the opening day, with McIlroy, who won’t feature until week two of the competition, explaining the vision for the project.

Speaking before its launch, McIlroy told ESPN: "Tiger and I have been a part of this from day one and whenever you see the concepts and the renderings you think 'Yeah, that looks really cool’.

"But until you actually stand in here [the SoFi Center] and you see what they've been able to do, I think the scale of it is the thing for me that blows my mind.”

He continued: "Every time I step in here I'm just blown away by the size of the screen, the fact that we're able to put something that looks like golf on a stage like this. It's really cool and we're obviously really excited about it within the game of golf.

"I think a lot of other people outside of the game are going to see this and hopefully get excited about it as well."

On the facilities inside the SoFi Center, the four-time major winner continued: "The playing surfaces are very realistic. Whenever you hit it out of the rough, you have to think about whether you're going to get a flyer; whether it's going to come out soft.

“A lot of things that you would have to think about on a real golf course."

TGL gets underway this week and is set to run until late March.
