Although viewers are saddened by the conclusion of the series, Brenda Blethyn has signalled that she is prepared for Vera's journey to come to an end. The revered 78-year-old actress, long associated with the iconic part of the police inspector from 2011 onwards, confessed: "It was a lovely summer back in 2023 and I came to realise I hadn't had a summer with my husband for 14 years.

"I certainly missed being with my family more often. And my dog Jack, despite him coming up to the North East with me. But because of the demanding work schedule, I scarcely had time to see him. Theres a special place in my heart for my Vera family, yet my other family holds just as much importance to me."
