Read More:Â Avicii â âTIMâ reviewThe film charts the journey of Avicii â real name Tim Bergling â prior to his death in 2018 at the age of 28. The Swedish DJ and producer became a household name of EDM in the 2010s, and the documentary was produced with the blessing of Bergling’s parents.
âWhen I determined that heâd be the one whoâd narrate this story, I thought that maybe it was how I could be close to him,â the filmâs director Henrik Burman told Billboard. âMaybe thatâs how I can meet him.â
Ahead to its release today (December 31), Netflix (via Billboard) has issued a clip from the documentary that features previously-unseen footage of the producer working in the studio. Watch it below.
Earlier this year, his family released the picture book Avicii: The Life and Music of Tim Bergling, which features photographs of the musician from across his career.
On the loss of Bergling, his father Klas Bergling told BBC: âI miss him every minute. Of course, I talk to him every day. But, I admit, I get angry at him sometimes. Why did you do it? Why did you leave us?â
In the days after his passing, his family issued a statement that appeared to confirm that he had taken his own life.
âOur beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions,â they wrote. âAn over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most â music.â
âHe really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight. Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed. The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive.â
It is known that he had been working on new music in the weeks before his death, including sessions with songwriter/producer Joe Janiak in Los Angeles.
In February, a new Avicii remix was released, titled âBeautiful Drugâ. The song was originally written and released by the Zac Brown Band, with Aviciiâs mix having been sitting âin the vaultâ for nine years.
