Arsenal player ratings vs Ipswich: 8/10 duo reignite title charge as Arteta gamble works

Arsenal enjoyed near total domination with the ball as Mikel Arteta's side overcame struggling Ipswich Town 1-0 on Friday night.

The Gunners enjoyed 92 per cent possession in the first quarter of the match and their efforts soon paid off, as Kai Havertz scored his seventh goal of the Premier League campaign after slotting home from close range.

Gabriel Magalhaes and Havertz both missed easy chances to seal the points, but Ipswich's lack of attacking threat meant the hosts were never in any danger as they climbed to second in the Premier League.

David Raya 6

A passenger in the first half due to Arsenal's complete domination, the Spaniard could be forgiven for one stray pass that William Saliba eventually recovered. Ipswich failed to test him once and he might not ever get an easier clean sheet than this.

Jurrien Timber 8

Showed a real desire to get involved further up the pitch with some nice passes and even launched a 25-yard effort early on, which was saved by Muric.

William Saliba 7

Caught out by Raya's dangerous pass but showed strength, pace and desire to hold off Sam Szmodics. Looked unbeatable against the aerial menace that is Liam Delap.

Gabriel Magalhaes 7

Engaged in some feisty battles high up the pitch and swept up the danger when Ipswich made a rare venture out of their half. Really should've scored from a teasing Rice corner, but glanced wide from two yards out.

Myles Lewis-Skelly 7

The 18-year-old was rewarded with his third consecutive league start and he looked composed on the ball, making smart decisions with passes and keeping Omari Hutchinson under wraps.

Declan Rice 8

The tireless midfielder hassled Ipswich's defence with high pressing and settled nicely into his holding position. His surging runs caused problems for his former England colleague Kalvin Phillips and exemplified why he cost £105million.

Martin Odegaard 7

The Norwegian was a real livewire in the first half, buzzing around the edge of the box trying to find pockets of space to pass into. So nearly got his goal and then supplied a perfect delivery for Rice from the corner. The composer to Arsenal's orchestra.

Kai Havertz 7

Dropping back into attacking midfield again might just be a blessing in disguise. His ghosting run into the box allowed him to fool the Ipswich defenders and he tapped home from Trossard's inch-perfect cross. Moved up front when Jesus was brought off and somehow failed to stab home from three yards. Booked.

Gabriel Martinelli 6

Starting in Bukayo Saka's role on the right, the Brazilian was perhaps not best suited to this type of game, with Ipswich sitting in the deepest of low blocks. There was no lack of effort from the 23-year-old, though, which will please Arteta.

Gabriel Jesus 6

All eyes were on the striker after bagging five goals in a week against Crystal Palace. He did have the ball in the net again on 33 minutes, but this time he was correctly flagged offside. Other than that, the Brazilian didn't get too many chances to feed fr and was replaced after 71 minutes.

Leandro Trossard 7

Had a few efforts blocked in the first half but the Belgian looked eager to impress on the left. That he did, showing a quick burst of pace and lining up a gorgeous cross to hand Havertz a simple tap-in.
