The 1% Club's 'easy' question knocks out 28 contestants - but did you get it right?

The 1% Club contestant knocked out at first round

ITV’s hit game show The 1% Club left fans in disbelief during this year’s Christmas special when a seemingly straightforward festive question stumped a staggering 28 contestants.

The festive edition, hosted by Lee Mack, saw contestants battle through logic-based questions for the chance to win up to £100,000. However, it was the second question of the night that caused chaos among the participants.

The challenge displayed two festive-themed images side by side, asking contestants to identify the single item missing from one image.

"What is the only item which does NOT appear in both images?" Social media exploded with reactions as baffled fans took to X to express their astonishment.

One wrote: “What on earth were those 28 people looking at?” Another added: “How did anyone in the history of this planet get it wrong?”

A third questioned: “28 people getting the second question wrong? Surely they weren’t even trying!” While a fourth mused: "That was so easy. What the hell? I'm so confused that these ppl are dropping like flies!"

Viewers at home were able to guess correctly - but did you get it?

However, the uproar didn’t eclipse the show’s over the top festive cheer as Lee injected his signature humour into the proceedings.

The Answer

The correct answer? A pair of Santa's legs.

Yet, the question managed to catch out over a quarter of the players.

The comedian, who has hosted The 1% Club since its debut in 2022, has helped the show become one of ITV’s most popular quiz programmes, regularly pulling in over four million viewers.

Speaking previously about the format’s success, he admitted he knew it would be a hit from the beginning, despite some initial reservations.

“I can’t take any credit for it because it’s not my format,” he revealed on the RHLSTP podcast. “On the pilot episode, I thought, ‘There is no way these 100 contestants are going to laugh at my jokes—they’ll be too busy trying to win the £100,000.’

“I didn’t get any laughs, but I did think, ‘This is a good format as my jokes are so brilliant,’” he joked.

Lee also praised the casting, saying, “They’ve chosen people who are bright and fun. Even though you’d think serious quizzers would dominate, no same person will get it right every time.”

Despite the Christmas special mishap, fans have praised The 1% Club for its unique blend of humour and brain-teasing questions.

The 1% Club is available to stream on ITVX.
