Man arrested for alleged burglary, attempted break-in

Police announced on Sunday that they have arrested and charged a 46-year-old man on suspicion of burglary and attempted burglary in connection with a string of cases. Senior Inspector Lau Wing-lam said the suspect is believed to have broken into 11 kindergartens, a construction site and an office in New Territories and Kowloon between May and this month, taking away cash and electronic gadgets worth over HK$230,000. "Our investigation found that the man had acted alone. He pried open door locks or window frames using hard objects during the early hours of the day, and ransacked the place to steal cash and some electronic gadgets, such as computers, phones, and cameras," Lau said. The schools reported losses of more than HK$180,000 between them -- including HK$150,000 in cash -- while the two other places lost items worth about HK$43,000. Officers said they’ve been able to recover some of the stolen items. The man is due to appear at the Fanling Magistrates' Courts on Monday.
