Things are heating up ahead of the January transfer window, with several top Premier League sides in desperate need of reinforcements despite the historic difficulties around doing deals in the winter.

Manchester City's dire form surely offers scope for serious movement at the Etihad Stadium, while Manchester United will also want to boost their chances of a positive second half of the season under Ruben Amorim.

Meanwhile a scramble at the bottom of the table can never be discounted, with the threat of relegation looming for a cluster of top-flight teams.

Arsenal are interested in Argentina international Nico Paz, according to Tuttosport.

Gunners scouts have been keeping a close eye on the 20-year-old, who boasts two goals and three assists for Serie A side Como this season.

The last time Arsenal signed an attacking midfielder from Real Madrid (Martin Odegaard), things could hardly have turned out better.

Paz is technically owned by Como but Real have a cheap buy-back on him which is likely to be activated at the end of the season.

Manchester United are also said to have been watching Paz, with Inter Milan among his other admirers.

Manchester United have one eye on the second tier as they hunt down a new back-up goalkeeper.

According to The Sun, Leeds stopper Illan Meslier is admired by Red Devils scout Tony Coton, who has been following his progress closely.

United want another keeper to challenge Andre Onana, with current No. 2 Altay Bayindir failing to cut the mustard.

Meslier, 24, has made 22 league appearances this season, and Leeds are currently in an automatic promotion spot.

United are also believed to be tracking Botafogo goalkeeper John.
