Mason Mount has sent an emotional message to Manchester United fans after suffering his latest injury setback last weekend. The 25-year-old midfielder lasted just 12 minutes in the Manchester derby, putting a dampener on United's dramatic 2-1 win against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

He was unsurprisingly absent from the squad that travelled to London for Thursday's Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat at Tottenham.

And after full-time, Amorim confirmed that Mount was "very sad" and that the injury-stricken No. 7 faced "several weeks" on the sidelines.

"I don't know the exact date, but it's going to be for long. And that's it, it's part of football, and you continue," the United head coach explained.

"What I can do is to help Mase and teach him how to play our game when he's recovering. To try to use that time for him to think about different things.

"I think the worst part is that we don't have time to train like we should do when you are recovering from a lot of injuries.

"With Mason Mount, we are going to help him. It is really hard for a player to be out for so long and he is trying really hard, the same for me. If they try really hard, we will help them until the end."

On Friday evening, Mount broke his silence on the unfortunate situation, admitting how upset he was after exiting contention for another lengthy spell.

"Words can't portray how devastated I'm feeling right now, you could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant," Mount wrote on Instagram.

"United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee, I will never give up or lose faith.

"I've said this before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this tough period and won't stop until that's achieved."

Mount's career at Old Trafford is yet to take off after his £55million arrival from Chelsea last summer.

The England international has played just 32 times since the start of last season, only starting on 14 occasions.

He's recorded just one goal and one assist while he has been on the pitch, only intensifying scepticism about United's decision to lure him from Chelsea.

Injuries have been damaging. The 4-3 loss at Tottenham was the 30th match Mount has missed as a United player, just two fewer than his appearance tally.

Uncertainty is growing about whether the former Blues playmaker has a future in Amorim's rebuild, given the ruthless nature of the Ineos regime.
