The season six finale of Virgin River was a whirlwind of events, culminating in the most anticipated TV wedding of the year. Let's dissect the key moments.

This season centred around Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) tying the knot, but their journey to the altar was fraught with hurdles.

From medical crises to familial conflicts and an unforeseen rivalry, here are the pivotal wedding scenes leading up to the shocking cliffhanger.

Regrettably, Mel's father Everett Reid (John Allen Nelson) missed the nuptials due to a heart attack on the eve of the ceremony.

The prospect of losing another father figure was too much for Mel, who required a morale boost from Jack while Hope McCrea (Annette O'Toole) bought time with a lengthy discourse on love.

Mel's decision to have Everett walk her down the aisle also upset her boss Vernon 'Doc' Mullins (Tim Matheson), reigniting their old feud.

However, they eventually made amends when Everett admitted his car crash was a suicide attempt, which prevented Doc from saving a young boy's life.

In a heartwarming twist, Everett managed to rally in time to serenade Mel and Jack with the song he penned for Mel's mother, completing a piece that had been years in the making, just as the newlyweds took to the floor for their first dance.

Did Mel and Doc make up?

Tensions peaked just before the nuptials when Mel and Doc locked horns in a fierce argument, the most severe since Mel arrived in Virgin River. Despite Doc's almost paternal bond with Mel, she rebuffed him with a sharp "You're not my father" after he expressed disapproval over her growing closeness to Everett, especially when she involved him in a medical crisis.

With a little persuasion from Hope and Mel, plus a meaningful exchange with Everett, Doc softened his stance.

He graced the wedding, proudly escorting Mel down the aisle while her own father was hospitalised (though unbeknownst to guests, he was also prepping for his memorable performance).

Did Brie and Brady get back together?

The journey to the altar wasn't without its drama, particularly the tangled romantic web involving Brie Sheridan (Zibby Allen), Dan Brady (Benjamin Hollingsworth), Lark (Elise Gatien), and Mike (Marco Grazzini). This season threw viewers into a whirlwind of emotions as Brie, after leaving a tipsy voicemail during Mel's hen do, admitted she "can't stop thinking about him" and subsequently succumbed to her feelings for Brady.

Drama unfolded at the wedding where, after confessing their love, Lark overhears and is visibly crushed. As the night ensues, she seeks out her daughter Hazel (Ava Anton), leaving with an enigmatic threat directed at Brady: "this is your fault", before vanishing.

The plot thickens when Brady finds his finances wiped clean - it turns out Lark has conned him after all.

Elsewhere, Mike opens his heart to Brie about a future together, regardless of her tryst with Brady. The scene ends on a cliffhanger as Brie's response remains unheard, promising more turmoil in the upcoming seventh season.

What happened with Preacher and Kaia?

During an emotional wedding speech, Jack's confidant Preacher (Colin Lawrence) reflected on courage, yet couldn't shake off Kaia's (Kandyse McClure) earlier honest admission regarding her reluctance for another marriage.

Preacher respected her hesitation but his dreams of marriage seemed dashed.

What will happen in season seven?

The season finale of Virgin River was a rollercoaster ride, with Jack's emotional conversation with his father Nick (Keith MacKechnie), Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) and Denny's (Kai Bradbury) heart-wrenching decision to test their daughter for Huntington's, and Muriel's (Teryl Rothery) upcoming fight against breast cancer.

In a potential twist for season seven, Mel and Jack could welcome a new addition to their family. Despite suffering a miscarriage in season five and deciding against trying for another pregnancy, Mel's patient Marley (Rachel Drance) drops a bombshell.

The next season will also delve deeper into the town's criminal underbelly, with Calvin (David Cubitt) persistently lurking around the edges, attempting to infiltrate the life of his ex Charmaine (Lauren Hammersley) and their twins.

Charmaine even contemplates obtaining a restraining order against Calvin, discussing it with Brie. However, it seems she may have delayed too long.

When Charmaine fails to appear at the wedding, Jack visits her home the following day only to find it in disarray.
