Premier League clubs are finalising their plans for a busier-than-usual January transfer window. Many teams are in desperate need of reinforcements after a tough start to the top-flight season.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham have all had relative underperformances this term. All three will need to improve their ranks if they are to drastically improve in the second half of the campaign.

Despite exceeding all expectations, Liverpool and Chelsea may benefit from an extra boost to give them an even better chance of winning the league. January has been a relatively quiet month for the Premier League's big-hitters in recent seasons - but it seems extremely unlikely that will be the case this time around.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca will open the exit door to unhappy stars in January.

The Italian has a bloated squad and has used almost entirely different teams between competitions, in a bid to please key stars.

Maresca says that Chelsea will not sell anyone in an ideal world. However, he accepts that some players could be unhappy and want to deputy.

“We don't want to sell players in January… but probably players that are not playing a lot, they might be unhappy and want to leave,” he told TNT Sport. “Then we’ll see what happens.”

A former wonderkid as a teenager, the talented dribbler is finding his feet after a tricky few years.

Now aged 21, Cherki is attracting interest from several big clubs ahead of the January window. It is claimed in the French press that Lyon may need to sell.

According to Foot Mercato, Liverpool and PSG are leading the race for his signature.

Other Premier League clubs were linked during the summer.

A left-footed right-winger, it would be interesting to see where Cherki fits in at Anfield given the speculation that Mohamed Salah could be set to sign a new contract.

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to spend nearly £60m to fix their goalkeeping problems.

Robert Sanchez is their No. 1 shot-stopper at the moment but has endured an error-prone time at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are therefore reportedly launching a bid for the reliable Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Dortmund will apparently struggle to hold on to the Swiss if they do not qualify for the Champions League.

German publication BILD reports that Dortmund value the the 27-year-old at £58m.

Manchester United are reportedly in discussions with Barcelona over finally landing Frankie de Jong - with Marcus Rashford heading in the opposite direction.

El Nacional claim that United are prepared to sanction a swap deal to allow outcast Rashford to leave.

The forward was once again left out of Ruben Amorim's squad, this time for the Carabao Cup defeat against Tottenham.

Midfielder De Jong is a long-term target since early in the Erik ten Hag era.

United reportedly hope to finally land their man.
