BBC The One Show fans issue same response minutes into latest episode

The One Show viewers all seemed to be having the same epiphany just minutes into the programme when Barney Walsh joined his dad Bradley Walsh on the BBC show.

On Thursday's episode (December 19), the father-son duo promoted the revamped Gladiators, which is set for a celebrity special airing on New Year's Day.

However, many fans' attention was hijacked by a startling realisation: Barney Walsh and host Roman Kemp are, in fact, two distinct individuals. One bewildered viewer took to X (formerly Twitter) and confessed: "Seeing Roman Kemp and Barney Walsh on #theoneshow is strange to me. they both live in the same place in my brain."

Another chimed in: "My Nan will be having a moment right now seeing Barney and Roman in the same place at the same time. She thinks they are the same person, forever mixing them up."

A third onlooker tweeted: "Wait, Barney Walsh and Roman Kemp AREN'T the same person? " while another echoed, "I always thought Barney and Roman were the same person.", reports Wales Online.

The new iteration of Gladiators stormed back onto screens in early 2024, boasting 16 fresh stars invigorating the beloved 1990s ITV reality series, with Bradley and Barney Walsh sharing hosting duties.

Fans were riveted, cheering on their preferred contestants each week. The show swiftly secured its spot as the largest entertainment launch for a new series in seven years, drawing 9.8 million viewers for its first episode according to 28-day figures.

The quartet set to challenge the Gladiators includes comedian Rob Beckett, TV presenter and triathlete Louise Minchin, presenter and comedian Joel Dommett, and Ellie Taylor from Ted Lasso.

These celebrities will be put through their paces against the formidable Gladiators before they compete in the legendary Eliminator.

Roman will return to our screens alongside Alex Jones on Friday (December 20) for the final show of the year, before the duo take a well-deserved Christmas break.
