Rory McIlroy lifted the lid on his supplement and fitness regime during his barnstorming round at Shadow Creek on Tuesday evening, when - along with Scottie Scheffler - he left LIV golf duo Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka stunned.

For many years McIlroy has been known as one of the trailblazers regarding physical fitness in golf, and endless hours devoted to gym sessions.

The strength and fitness of the 35-year-old is reflected in his consistency on tour - finishing in the world top 3 rankings annually and constantly challenging for majors year in, year out - and also his lack of major injuries.

McIlroy linked up with Scheffler in Nevada, Las Vegas, to take on DeChambeau and Koepka in the tantalising branded: 'The Showdown.'

The 18-hole best-ball clash acted as an unofficial PGA Tour vs LIV Golf spectacle, with McIlroy and Scheffler taking the honours in dominant fashion.

Mic'ed up on the course, many playful jibes and digs were exchanged between the players, while viewers at home were also afforded the rare opportunity of listening to the golfers engage in personal conversations during the journeys to and from the holes while in the golf buggy.

During the round, Scheffler begun to ask McIlroy about his fitness supplements, after noticing the Ulsterman drinking from a bottle of bright red juice.

It turned out to be a fruit mix with creatine - a substance that the human body creates naturally which, among other things, helps maintain a continuous energy supply to the muscles during intense lifting or exercise.

McIlroy could be heard telling Scheffler: "So there's a lot of research out there that it's really good for mental [wellbeing].

"I take 10 grams before I work out and then I take 10 grams at some other point during the day.

"It's one of the most studied supplements ever."

When pressed by the commentary team on what exactly they were speaking about, McIlroy confirmed his chat had been about creatine intake, and added: "When you work out, it just makes you work out a little harder."

Scheffler chimed in, with a comical quip: "Yeah we're talking about creatine, Rory is sharing his latest secrets with me."

Northern Irish ace McIlroy, with a smile, added: "It's my hit-it-further juice," before shaking a red bottle containing a mixture of the supplement and taking a sip.

As the match concluded, with McIlroy and Scheffler's dominant victory, the PGA duo were awarded an eye-watering $10m prize, in the form of cryptocurrency from the headline sponsors.

In what quickly became a comical moment, a smirking McIlroy asked Scheffler - who won over $29m of prize money during his stunning 2024 season - "What are you going to do with yours."

World No.1 Scheffler simply replied: "I dunno," before adding, "you know, I don't know a whole lot about crypto, but this is some good motivation to do some research and figure out what is going on."
