Steve Holland named new club manager seven months after leaving England role

Steve Holland, the former England assistant manager, has taken the reins at Japanese outfit Yokohama F. Marinos.

After parting ways with his role as Gareth Southgate's deputy in the summer, Holland is embarking on a new challenge. The 54-year-old, who was instrumental in England reaching two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final, departed alongside Southgate in August.

Marinos, affiliated with the City Football Group, are looking to improve on their ninth-place finish from last season, having dismissed Harry Kewell as manager in July. Holland is eager to propel his team to the summit of Japanese football when the new season commences in February.

"I am excited to come to Japan, wonderful country and honoured to have the opportunity to work in J.League, the best league in Asia," he expressed on the club’s official website. "Our mission is to compete for titles again, and we will pursue playing an aggressive, attacking football. I aim to build a team that consistently competes at the highest level, defined by strong competitiveness and unity."
