A star from Call The Midwife has accidentally let slip a spoiler about the upcoming Christmas extravaganzas.

Laura Main, who stars as Nurse Shelagh Turner in the blockbuster BBC One series, hinted at some big scenes this Christmas. For the first time ever, Call The Midwife fans will be treated to back-to-back specials - with one on Christmas Day and a follow-up on Boxing Day.

Viewers are in for a treat with two consecutive nights of festive drama as the show ditches the traditional 90-minute episode for two one-hour instalments set to feature an intense festive cliffhanger.

As 1969 dawns upon Poplar, a delightful funfair rolls into town. However, joy is tempered by looming threats as both influenza and the Hong Kong flu make their dreaded appearances.

While a carol concert promises some good times, the buzz of an escaped convict suspected in the vicinity after several burglaries taints the festivities. Among other personal tales, Trixie visits Nonnatus House to see her brother Geoffrey, Miss Higgins welcomes her grandson Harry, Violet orchestrates a mince pie contest, and there's anticipation over Reggie's return to the Buckle family, reports Wales Online.

This morning Laura graced the couch on BBC Breakfast, where she revealed a snippet about what's in store. Speaking to presenters Sally Nugent and Jon Kay, she teased: "Yes! I probably ought not to say anything, really! It does involve a much-loved member of the community. So yes, you will want to be tuning in again on Boxing Day.

"That image of us singing Christmas carols - I think that comes to what - I'm giving away too many secrets. But you get all the rousing finishes and all the Christmas magic in each episode. So you'll be fuelled up by then."

Fans of the beloved series have even more to celebrate with the announcement of a new and 15th series, set to grace our screens with eight fresh episodes in early 2025.

Heidi Thomas OBE, the mastermind behind the series, said: "Who doesn't love finding an extra, unexpected present underneath the Christmas tree? When I was asked to write a two-part Christmas special for 2024, I couldn't resist!"

Adding to the anticipation, Dame Pippa Harris, executive producer, stated, "For the first time, viewers can luxuriate in a two-part festive treat this Christmas. Heidi has created a spellbinding special that I know will delight our loyal fans."
